Tennis team drops a pair of matches

The Clear Lake girls tennis team dropped a pair of matches last week.  Monday, the team lost a close 5-4 decision to Osage.  The next day Charles City provided stiffer competition, 8-1.  Clear Lake has three meets this week.  Monday the Lions were at Iowa Falls Alden and Tuesday they were at Charles City.

Thursday, May 3, the team will be  at Waverly for a quadrangular.

Osage 5, CL 4
The Lions fell 8-1 to the Green Devils in their first meeting of the season.  This time it was a nail-biter.  The two teams split singles wins, 3-3, but Osage captured two of three doubles matches for the win.
“We were tied at four matches each and number one doubles team Jenna Peterson and Carly Ouverson  were tied at 10 games each,” explained Coach Martha Andrews.  A seven-point tie breaker was played, with Osage’s  Hejhal and Chisholm winning 7-3.  The victory lifted Osage to the team victory.
“All of the team had improved so much, as the game scores show,” added Andrews.

CC 8, CL 1
After playing many long matches on Monday with Osage, the Lions hosted Charles City on Tuesday.
“Our scores showed up lower with the change in temperature and the second night of games in a row,” said Coach Andrews.  “Our lone and very close match came at number one singles with Jenna Peterson playing strong against and defeating Toray Buenger, 10 - 8.
