Impressive performances spark CL boys golf team

The Clear Lake boys golf team improved its record to 21-7 overall and 5-2 in the North Central Conference with impressive performances last week.

Extremely windy conditions pushed scores a bit higher than normal, but Treslyn Allison paced the Lions in a 178-182 victory over Fort Dodge St. Ed’s.  The teams played at Lakeside in Fort Dodge Friday, April 27.
“Treslyn came through for us tonight,” said Coach Eric Perry.  “He battled hard all night. It was a ‘grind it out’ night with 40 mph winds that were steady at that speed.

That much wind throws everything off.  Some of our little guys could hardly stand with the wind whipping.  This much wind not only pushes your ball around, but good posture is hard to keep while the wind pushes your body around.”
Allison came into the clubhouse with a 42.  He finished as a medalist, along with Ed Doyle, from St. Ed’s, who had a 40.
Luke Monson and Dane Waldron each shot 45s for the Lions and Jon Carew added a 46.  Also competing on the varsity was Tyler Sherman with a 48 and Tommy Schick with a 50.
In junior varsity action, Shawn Snelling had a good round, tying Allison for team low at 42.
“This was Shawn’s first meet on JV.  The number one JV position has been scoring better than most of the varsity all year.  I don’t know if they feel they have pressure on varsity or what, but it seems like some play better on JV,” said Coach Perry.  That is a bad problem, since it was our last JV meet.  We need to cut our roster down to six for the rest of the year.  We have five guys battling for the final three spots on Varsity.  This will be another tough decision.”
Clear Lake’s junior varsity team finished the season  6-0 on the year.

Freshman Tommy Schick led the Lions in a triangular with North Central Conference foes Hampton-Dumont and Eagle Grove.  Schick fired a 37 to claim medalist honors.
