Wind plays a factor in CL girls soccer loss to MC
MC 1, CL 0
The Lions (2-1) held their ground against Mason City on a very windy Monday. But with the wind at their back, the Mohawks scored the only goal in the match for a 1-0 victory April 9.
“It was a match which showed that the young players that have stepped up to fill spots,” said Clear Lake Coach Lothar Meyer. “The team has improved a great deal since the beginning of season.”
The coach noted the play of sophomore goal keeper Riley Brinkman, who made 13 saves in the game, and the defensive play of Emily Phalen and Madison Faber.
“They held up against a 3A team very well, with only one goal getting by.”
The Lion offense also battled hard, with several shots by Megan Kopriva, Hannah Bartlett and Logan Anderson just missing. Ashley Mizsewski and Ivy Hogg effectively fed the offensive trio the ball.
Mason City goalie Kate Moorehead had nine saves in the win.
In junior varsity action, the Lions picked up a 1-0 win over the Mohawks. Logan Anderson scored Clear Lake’s goal.
The next home match for the Lions is Friday, April 20.
