Hattie Floy

    Hattie Hilda Floy, 94, died Tuesday, Feb 28, 2012 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.  A celebration of her life was held Friday, March 2, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev.  Dean Hess and Pastor Kirk Wilkie officiating. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery.   Family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church or Opportunity Village.

     Hattie was born Feb. 22, 1918 in Thornton, Iowa, the daughter of John Henry and Mary Magdalene (Hansen) Henricksen.  She graduated from Thornton High School.  Hattie married Vernon Floy on Oct 6, 1941 in Rockwell, Iowa at the Lutheran Parsonage.  
     Hattie and Vernon had five children, so she was busy being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was known as grandma “cookie” for her holiday cookies.  She loved to do crafts and sew.  She enjoyed playing bridge along with other card games and bowling.  She  was an avid Hawkeye, Twins and Viking fan.  Hattie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, was active in ZLCW and was past president and member of women’s  circle.  She volunteered at Opportunity Village Store, Good Samaritan, Oakwood Care Center and was a Hospice Volunteer.  She also helped during elections.
     Hattie is survived by her children, Connie (Ray Perez) Windorpski, Austin, Texas, Claudia Hollatz, Centerville, Iowa, Douglas (Barbara) Floy, Clear Lake, Curtis (Judy DeRock) Floy, Clear Lake, and Karla (Steve) Bacon, Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren, Jason Floy, Brad (Erin) Floy, Scott (Sarah) Floy, Brian Windorpski, Josh Hollatz, Peter Hollatz, Jessica (Phill) Maxwell, Allan Hollatz, Tanner Bacon and Chase Bacon; two great-grandchilden, Emma and Owen Maxwell; two sisters-in-law, Adeline Floy, Clear Lake, and Ruth Ann Behrendsen, Colorado and many nieces and nephews.
     Hattie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon on July 8, 1990; three brothers and three sisters.
    Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
