It’ll be a colorful weekend

The 11th annual “Color the Wind” Kite Festival, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, is expected to be among the biggest in the event’s history. Organizers Larry and Kay Day say there will be an exciting variety of huge show kites, ground displays

and demonstrations of choreographed kite ballet.  Because of the unusual winter, the Clear Lake festival is one of only a handful of kite events able to be held this winter due to poor ice conditions throughout the Midwest.  For that reason, the Days say kite enthusiasts are excited to attend.  The mild winter has also prompted the DNR to turn off the lake aerators, meaning the kite festival will have the entire expanse of the Sea Wall area to display kites.  The  Lakeview Room across the street from the flying field will provide a place to warm up, view a display of kite memorabilia, buy kites, and purchase food.-Photo courtesy of Christopher Dodson.
