Bulldogs end girls’ win streak

Hampton-Dumont ended Clear Lake’s five-game win streak with a 59-50 victory Tuesday, Dec. 20.
Clear Lake Head Coach Bart Smith explained the Bulldogs’ size gave them an advantage on both ends of the court.

“Hampton was as a tough match up for us.  They are a big team that starts three post players and are very long in their zone defense they were playing.  Some of our shots were altered because of that,” said Smith.  “We failed to get out in transition and get easy buckets, which allowed them to set up their defense.  I felt we didn’t play our game.”
The Lions were also without one of their starters in the North Central Conference contest.   Sophomore standout Logan Anderson was sidelined with an injury.  Smith said Anderson’s absence may have contributed to the Lions’ lack of transition buckets.
Despite the change in the line-up, the Lions played evenly with the Bulldogs in the first half and made a run at the end.  The teams were locked at 11-11 after one quarter and H-D was up 28-26 at the break.  The Bulldogs’ nine-point win is a bit deceiving because the Lions came back from 12 points down to cut it to a two possession game.
