Great Lakes chosen as new carrier by Mason City Airport
Great Lakes Aviation will soon serve the Mason City Municipal Airport. The Mason City Airport Commissioners recommended Great Lakes unanimously at a meeting held Monday evening.
“Great Lakes is the best choice for Mason City,” said Airport Manager Pam Osgood. “We are expecting this to be a smooth transition.”
Great Lakes will replace Delta, which announced this year that they would discontinue service to Mason City.
Delta has agreed to continue to be the airport’s carrier until Great Lakes takes over.
Osgood said that the United States Department of Transportation needs to give final approval. She said that approval is due Nov. 21 or shortly there after. From there it will take several weeks for the announcement to be made and several more months for the transition to occur.
“We are encouraging everyone to keep booking flights and Delta will honor those until Great Lakes is in place, which will probably be in the spring,” said Osgood.
Great Lakes will provide four daily round trips between Mason City and Minneapolis, which is more than the two flights currently offered. Flights will be made on a 19-seat Beech aircraft.
