Lion runners bunch toward the top for good results
Clear Lake runners are using the strength in numbers approach to earn some good placements
“As a group, they keep pushing each other in the race and running close to each other. That’s helping to move everyone closer to the top,” said Coaches Jerry Morris and Lothar Meyer.
The teams competed Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Eagle Grove. The Clear Lake girls teams finished fifth in overall standings, while the boys were seventh.
Girls race
Trudy Peterson was the top finisher for Clear Lake in the girls race. She was sixth in 16:53, followed closely by Sierra Greiman (7th, 17:06). Steph Faught was also part of the leading pack, placing 12th in 17:25.
“Those three keep pushing each other in every meet,” said the coaches. “The seem to be running together in the first two miles and then race the last half mile of the race with each other and it is almost a different winner in every race.”
The next group of Lion runners included Rebecca Baker (42nd, 18:54), Kirsten Reineke (53rd, 19:58), Amie Adams (54th, 20:02) and Jade Ullrich (62nd, 21:13).
“We need to move the next group of runners close to the top three in the last couple races of the year,” added the coaches.
Garner-Hayfield won the girls title at the meet with 53 points. They were followed by: Gilbert (74), Spencer (89), Humboldt 107), Clear Lake (119), Algona (125), Estherville (146) and Forest City (N/S).
