X-C team fairs well at home meet
Clear Lake hosted its cross country invitational Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Baptist Camp at Ventura. Each Lion team had a strong outing, resulting in a third place finish overall for the varsity boys team; the Clear Lake girls were fourth overall.
Coaches Lothar Meyer and Jerry Morris extended their thanks to the Baptist Camp and the people that work there for all their hard work in helping to get the grounds ready and running the meet. “It is really appreciated that they let us use the facility and help us get it ready.
Boys race
The Lions were without their number one runner, Antonio DiMarco, but the rest of the Lions stepped it up to place third in the 12-team field, said the coaches.
“We turned in some of our best times of the year on a very good night to run,” said the coaches.
Jacob Baker was the top finisher for Clear Lake, placing 14th in 17:17. Alex Blum and Jake Iverson were close behind, finishing 18th and 20th respectively in 17:25 and 17:41. Justin Jurgens and Alex Enabnit were running in their first varsity race and did a great job, finishing 28th and 29th overall in 18:12 and 18:13. Also competing in the varsity race was Austin Anderson (33rd, 18:36) and Troy Jandebeur (65th, 20:25).
Humboldt was the boys’ team winner with 46 points. Garner-Hayfield/West Hancock/Ventura was runner-up with 57. Clear Lake was third with 109, followed by Central Springs (139), Hampton-Dumont (155), Forest City (168), West Fork (184), Eagle Grove (207), Mason City Newman (211), Clarion-Goldfield (219), Belmond-Klemme (267) and CAL (Inc.).
Girls race
Three Lions placed in the top 10 in the girls varsity race and another posted the best time of her high school career, helping the team to finish fourth in the field of 12 teams.
Sierra Greiman paced the Lion pack, crossing the finish line in fifth place in a time of 16:04. Trudy Peterson and Steph Faught were eighth and ninth respectively in 16:18 and 16:20. Amie Adams ran her best time to place 32nd in 17:59. Rebecca Baker recovered from a fall to finish 47th in 18:34. Also competing in the varsity race was Kirsten Reineke (53rd, 19:04) and Jade Ullrich (61st, 19:43).
