G-H/V/WH cross country team collecting some top place finishes
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country team has been logging some miles and picking up some top place finishes in recent meets.
Newman Meet
The team opened the season on Tuesday, Aug. 30, when they competed at the Newman meet in Mason City. The boy’s team placed third with 98 points behind Mason City with 65 points and Osage with 83 points. The girls placed first with 41 points, followed
by Clear Lake with 100 and Bishop Garrigan with 109. Fourteen teams competed in the boy’s race, while 13 teams competed in the girl’s race.
The G-H/V-WH boys team was led by Brad Nedved who placed fifth overall with a time of 17:31. Ventura’s Joel Toppin also placed in the top 10 with an eighth place finish in 17:38. Ventura’s Jeff O’Brien, who also ran varsity, finished in a time of 19:20, good for a 43rd place finish.
The girl’s team was led by Kamille Kroneman who placed first in a time of 16:12. Nicole Burgart was sixth with a time of 16:32.
Running junior varsity from Ventura is Jacob Heinemann. Heinemann placed 15th in a time of 20:20. Nathan Opp led the JV team with a second place finish in a time of 19:18.
Belmond Meet
Both the boys and girls cross country teams brought home championships at the Belmond meet held on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
The boy’s team won with 50 points, followed by Osage with 57 and NI-NK with 63. Eight teams competed in the meet. Brad Nedved won the boys’ race with a time of 17:40. Joel Toppin also ran a strong race and was right behind Nedved for a second place finish in a time of 17:48.
The girl’s team won the meet with 20 points, followed by NI-NK with 70 points and Clear Lake with 95 points. Eight teams competed in the meet. Kamille Kronemann won the race with a time of 16:20. Maddie Tusha placed second overall with a time of 16:38.
Ventura’s Jeff O’Brien was the overall winner in the JV race with a time of 19:27. Jacob Heineman was the next fastest JV runner with a time of 20:10 and a 5th place overall finish.
Clear Lake Meet
The G-H/V/WH team didn’t have far to travel on Thursday, Sept. 15, when they ran in Clear Lake’s meet held at the Iowa Baptist Camp in Ventura.
The boy’s finished in second place in the 12 team race with 57 points. Humboldt won the meet with 46 points. Clear Lake was third with 109 points. Brad Nedved and Joel Toppin were the leaders for G-H/V/WH with 3rd and 4th place finishes. Nedved ran the course in 16:24, while- Read More Via e-Edition
