Ventura School Board member resigns

Persons interested in serving  invited to submit names

 

    Ventura School Board member Carol Prescott has officially submitted her resignation to the board.
    Board Secretary Nancy Watson said Prescott handed in her resignation at the Sept. 5 board meeting.  The group must now fill the vacancy within 30 days of her resignation.  Any resident of the Ventura District interested in filling Prescott’s term until the next election in September 2013 is asked to contact Watson at Ventura Schools 641-829-4482.

    Prescott, who had been the Board vice president, announced in late July that she intended to resign following the Sept. 13 election in protest of the Board of Educational Examiners’ (BOEE) ruling against Ventura Superintendent and Elementary Principal Brian Rodemeyer.   Prescott, who served on the Ventura School Board for five years, testified at a BOEE hearing on behalf of the school district and Rodemeyer. 
    Rodemeyer agreed in 2009 to take the necessary coursework for a temporary superintendent certification when asked by the Ventura Board to serve as superintendent, as well as remain as elementary school principal.  There was confusion between Rodemeyer and the Department of Education in regards to the number of credits needed to serve with a temporary license. The Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) directed the school board to withdraw Rodemeyer’s contract in February 2010 and filed a complaint against Rodemeyer.  He stepped down and continued to serve - Read More Via e-Edition
