Lady Vikes opened strong, but came up short
The Ventura volleyball team opened strong, but couldn’t keep their momentum and fell to St. Ansgar at home on Thursday, Sept. 1.
The Lady Vikes pulled off a close, 26-24, win in the first match, but dropped the next three by scores of 25-13, 25-20 and 25-13.
“The first game was very exciting,” said Coach Abby Roenfanz. “The girls fought hard and played well. It went down hill from there. The team had some outstanding moments and then sometimes we couldn’t seem to get anything to go our way.”
Emily Mathews had an outstanding night for the Lady Vikes. She was 13/17 hitting with six kills. She was 10/12 serving with one ace. She also contributed two digs, one assist and four blocked shots.
Morgan Ames and Shelby Rayhons also were big contributors. Ames was 8/9 hitting with four kills, two assists and three blocked shots. Rayhons was 12/13 hitting with four kills. She was 6/8 serving with two aces and she had one dig and two blocks.
