Lions fight hard for win against Comets

Clear Lake extended its state-leading regular season win streak to 33 games Friday night-- but it wasn’t easy.  The Lions scored twice in the second half to edge Charles City, 13-6.
    The Lions, rated third in Class 3A, seemed out of sync in the first half, said their Coach, Fred Wieck.
    “They play us tough every year.  We’re happy to get out of there,” said Wieck after the game.  “It was a great win.”

    The victory was also very reminiscent of last year’s 14-6 contest in which the Lions pulled out the win in the end.  This year Clear Lake tied up the score at 6-6 on its first possession of the second half. 
    The Comets got on the scoreboard first in the final minute of the first half.  Charles City took advantage of a fumble by Lions quarterback Ozzie Adams on the 20 yard line.  On the next play Jesse Etherington connected with Nick Hageman for a 31-yard TD reception.  The kick attempt failed.
    The Lions tied the score when Michael Keeran ran the ball in from one yard out midway through the third quarter.  The play capped a 66-yard drive.  Logan Kracht missed the kick, resulting in the 6-6 score.
