John E. Guhl
John Edward Guhl, 77, of Clear
Lake, went to be with his Lord and
Savior on Tuesday, April 12, 2016,
at the Mercy Medical Center North
Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.
A celebration of John’s life was
held on Friday, April 15, 2016, at
Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake,
with the Rev. Steve Bang officiating.
Inurnment will be in Memorial Park
Cemetery, Mason City.
In lieu of flowers the family sug-
gests memorials go to the John Ed-
ward Guhl memorial fund in care of
Nancey Guhl, 817 9th Ave. S., Clear
Lake, Iowa 50428.
John was born July 12, 1938 in
Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Louis H.
and Anna (Schmalfeldt) Guhl. He
was baptized and confirmed at the St.
John Lutheran Church, Olin, Iowa.
He graduated from Olin High School
in 1959.
He worked at Cedar Rapids Ab-
stract, Metropolitan Supply, Cedar
Rapids, Iowa, and then Guhl Stan-
dard Station, in Olin. In 1981 he
went to work for Iowa State Dept. of
Corrections in Anamosa, Iowa, retir-
ing in 2000. He married Nancey Mix
on Dec. 22, 1995, at St. Paul Luther-
an Church, Anamosa.
Following his retirement they
moved to Clear Lake.
While living in Olin he was
a member of Olin Volunteer Fire
Dept., Olin Lions Club and later
was a member of St. Paul Lutheran
Church, Anamosa. He was very
proud to share his faith and love of Je-
sus Christ with his family and friends.
He enjoyed traveling, flipping houses,
carpentry, camping, working on cars,
baseball, dancing, watching TV west-
erns and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes
supporter.
He is survived by his loving wife,
Nancey (Mix) Guhl, Clear Lake;
daughters, Dena Ortgies, Cedar Rap-
ids, and Joleen (Ronald) Wheeler,
Mason City, Iowa; brother, Lyle
(Yvonne) Guhl, Plymouth, Minn.;
sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Louis) Hoff-
man, Mason City, and brother-in-law,
Larry (Claudette) Mix, Clear Lake;
three grandsons, Joe Hall, Christian
Jensen and Zachary Jensen, all of Ma-
son City; two great-granddaughters,
Maddisen Hall and Noel Jensen; and
several nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; brother, Kenneth Guhl
and his wife, Colleen; nephew, James
Guhl; son, Alan Patro; and his son-
in-law, Pete Jensen; and also his two
beloved cats, Spike and Missy.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Cha-
pel, Clear Lake, was in charge of ar-
rangements.

OBITUARIES
Robert G. Satter
Robert Gunn Satter, born Jan.
2, 1947, passed away peacefully April
13. His struggle with cancer didn’t
hamper his zest for life.
Bob grew up in Clear Lake, was
an Eagle Scout and a lifeguard at City
Beach. He loved the water and spent
summers sailing and was a true laker!
Bob graduated as a landscape archi-
tect from Iowa State University and
used his love for the environment and
skill in design to improve and create
many projects.
In 1970, Bob married Pam
Bergo Coffey and later divorced. To-
gether they had two children. He left
behind son, Zachary Gunn Satter,
from California; daughter, Cassan-
dra Marie, who is married to Scott
Goodwin; and two beautiful grand-
children, Elizabeth Rose Goodwin
and Gabrielle Ann Goodwin, from
Washington, Iowa.
Bob lived life well, his way and
always had a story, something to re-
member and laugh about! He was
thankful for goods friends.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, Paul and Nancy Satter;
his twin brother, Rick Satter; and a
younger brother, John.
Bob loved flowers, and in lieu of
memorials the family asks that you
give flowers to someone you love in
his memory. A celebration of his life
will be held at a later date.

family with arrangements.

City, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake,
died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the
Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit,

with the church and regularly sang in
the choir. She also worked as an of-
fice assistant in Garner, Iowa, at PSI,
in Belmond, Iowa, started a massage
therapy practice in Hampton, Iowa,
and managed entertainment bookings
for the former Backstreet Blues Club,
in Clear Lake.
She is survived by children, Kellie
Wallace and Matt Bauer, in Browns-
burg, Ind. and Adelphi, Md.; grand-
children, Brittany Vrchoticky and
Casey Santee, in Charles City, Iowa
and Topeka, Kan.; great-grandchil-
dren, Benjamin Willis and Aaliyah
Hibner, in Charles City; siblings,
Jolene Huinker and Kirk Mathews,
in Anamosa and Hampton; and long-
time companion, John McLoughlin,

chines. A ballot-marking machine will
be available in each precinct for any
voter who needs assistance in marking
the ballot.
