will also showcase the upcoming Re-
lay event, help teams gain fundraising
ideas, and give statistics about cancer
and what the American Cancer Soci-

lay For Life of Cerro Gordo County
will take place on Saturday, June 4,
2016, at the North Iowa Events Cen-
ter from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Teams can

The office of U.S. Senator Joni
Ernst (R-Iowa) will hold traveling
hours across Iowa to serve as a resource
in dealing with the federal govern-
ment. Staff members will be available
to answer questions and assist Iowans
needing resources related to Medicare
open enrollment, which is currently
underway and runs through Dec. 7.
A traveling office will be stationed at
the Clear Lake Public Library, 200 N.
4th St., Friday, Nov. 13, from noon to
1 p.m.
Head Start winter
outerwear drive begins
North Iowa Community Action
Head Start is once offering the Adopt
a Child program to help provide new
winter outerwear to children who
need it. The public is being asked to
purchase winter outerwear and Head
Start personnel will deliver it. Cash
donations are also welcomed and can
be made to Adopt a Child, PO Box

CARES fundraiser
The CARES Post Prom Commit-
tee invites the community to Pack the
Other Place restaurant in Clear Lake
Friday, Nov. 13, from 5-9 p.m. to help
raise money for prom. The OP will
donate a portion of the sales for the
evening to the CARES Committee.

Zinio help
On Monday, Nov. 16, from 6:30-
7:30 p.m., the Clear Lake Public Li-
brary offers an evening to explore
the use of Zinio, the library’s on-
line resource for magazines. Library
staff will go over how to access Zinio
through the library’s website, create
an account, and how to use various
devices to view magazines available
through Zinio. Besides Newsweek,
Consumer Reports, Prevention,
Popular Mechanics other titles avail-
able through Zinio include numerous
titles on popular topics such as cook-
ing, fitness, outdoors, sports, cars and
motorcycles, technology, travel, nutri-
tion, hobbies, style, and politics. The
workshop will be in the library’s meet-
ing rooms downstairs.

Iowa author Linda McCann will
speak at the Clear Lake Public Library
Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the
downstairs meeting room. Her book,
“Prohibition in Eastern Iowa” chron-
icles how this 13-year time frame af-
fected Iowa and the Clear Lake area.
Prohibition is the eighth book pub-
lished by Iowan Books. She mostly
works on the Vanished Towns of the
Cedar Valley series, which details
named locations within a county that
won’t be found on most maps today.
