Lions fall to tough H-D team in volleyball
Clear Lake wrapped up the regular
volleyball season at Hampton-Dumont
Tuesday, Oct. 20. The Bulldogs took a
bite out of the Lions, 25-19, 25-16, 25-
17.
“We had a rough night down
in Hampton. We came out a bit flat
and had trouble building momentum
throughout the match,” said Coach
Keith Sears. “Despite the loss, there were
big strides made by a number of the girls
which, as a coach, is always great to see
late in the season. We had a good couple

Nature Center
Award-winning author and sto-
ryteller Kevin Strauss will be at the
Lime Creek Nature Center to present
two story-telling sessions on Monday,
Nov. 9, from 6 – 8 p.m.
Strauss has been using stories to
entertain, educate and inspire chil-
dren and adults for more than a de-
cade. He will present the following:
6 p.m. - Nature Tales (Pre-school
– 2nd Grade): Explore the natural
world with stories, songs and ani-
mal props in this interactive “virtual
fieldtrip” program. Participants will
hear animal folktales and real life sto-
ries about the animals that live in the
woods and fields right near their hous-
es. They’ll even learn how to listen like
a deer and howl like a wolf.
7 p.m - Stories From the Bird
World (elementary age): No mat-
ter where you go, you will see birds.
Learn science and story reasons for
how birds fly, why birds are impor-
tant and how birds help us every day
in this engaging and nature-inspired
program.
These sessions are free, but reg-

Grand View (Iowa) claims the
number one ranking in the preseason
edition of the NAIA (National As-
sociation of Intercollegiate Athlet-
ics) Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll
and former Clear Lake prep Jacob
Colon is a pre-season number two
pick. Colon, a 2015 All-American at
133-pounds, is the highest ranked in-
dividual for the Vikings.
Four-time defending national
champion Grand View is rated num-
ber one in the pre-season poll for the
24th-straight time with 113.5 points.
The Vikings, who do not have a top-
ranked individual in the preseason
poll, have 11 individuals ranked.
Grand View opens its season on Nov.
7 with the Grand View Open.

of the jetties at Ventura, or by the two boat ramps on the little lake. White Bass - Fair:
Anglers have been catching an occasional white bass on the Ventura jetties. Walleye
- Fair: Anglers have been picking up a few more walleyes with the yellow bass this
week. Channel Catfish - Fair: Catfish have been caught on minnows on the Ventura
jetties. Yellow Perch - Fair: Some perch have been caught near the south Ventura jetty.
