Wyatt Pereira Tofte

Wyatt Pereira Tofte, infant son of missionaries David and Katelyn (Tofte) Pereira, passed into the arms of Jesus on Friday, February 21, 2025 in Lima, Peru. Christian burial has taken place at a private cemetery in the city of Iquitos.

Wyatt was born in Lima on July 1, 2024 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He underwent multiple heart surgeries, including the Norwood and Glenn procedures. Wyatt unexpectedly passed away hours before his anticipated second release from the hospital. Katie and David were blessed to spend several weeks with him at their Lima home between surgeries and were able to bring him home to Iquitos to celebrate Christmas with his big, loving Noriega family.

Baby Wyatt loved his mommy and daddy, going for car rides, visiting the ocean, chatting with Grandma online and flirting with the many nurses that loved on him.

Katie and Julie documented Wyatt’s story online, sharing stories of trials, victories, faith, joy and sorrow. Many people across continents were touched by Wyatt’s perseverance, his precious grin and enduring curiosity.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, David and Katie of Iquitos; grandparents, Jon and Julie Tofte of Clear Lake, IA, spiritual grandparents, Nelton and Bethany (Baxter) Noriega of Iquitos, great-grandparents Richard and Gayle Tofte of Morris, MN, Patricia Schmidt of Brownton, MN, and many uncles, aunts and extended relatives in both Peru and the U.S.

Wyatt was preceded in death by his great-grandfather Lloyd Schmidt, great-grandmother Kathryn Tofte and special great-aunt Hazel Borreson.

The family has been deeply touched by all who have offered prayers, encouragement and support. They also wish to extend special gratitude to International Messengers (Clear Lake), Iglesia Genesis church (Iquitos) and Caminodevida church (Lima) for walking with Katie and David during this most difficult time.
