Wrestlers beat North Polk; fall to Algona
The Clear Lake wrestling team had two duals Thursday evening. The Lions opened the night with a close loss to Algona, who was battling for a share of the conference title. They won their second dual convincingly over North Polk.
The Lions nearly knocked off the North Central Conference champions, Algona, in the first dual but lost a close 33-28 decision.
“We wrestled pretty well. Algona is 14-3 and we are right there with them,” said Coach Gary Weber. “We had some kids wrestle real well against Algona-- Aaron Boeshart beat the Bjustrom kid by major decision and he had lost twice to him earlier in the month. Brennen Doebel had another come-from-behind win, wrestling a kid 25-pounds heavier and Brice Wilcke and Logan Kellogg both moved up a weight class and won.”
In the second dual of the night, the Lions beat a good 10-6 North Polk team by a score of 51-19.
“North Polk is a good team and we beat them handily,” said Coach Weber. “It just shows how tough our schedule is this year with 10 ranked teams.
The coach said Matt Bieber’s win over a state qualifier was a highlight in the meet.
“He is really wrestling well right now and poised to make his state run,” said Weber.
The feature match was probably at 195, where second ranked Logan Kellogg moved up a weight to wrestle fourth ranked Noah Pickard. Kellogg was leading 3-2 with :15 seconds left- Read More Via e-Edition
