Wrapping up Giving Tree

All of the 215 ornaments on the Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter’s Giving Tree were checked out and gifts are now on their way to local families requesting some additional help this holiday season.

Each year The Giving Tree provides a very real reminder of the importance of community and the real meaning of Christmas.  In the 23 years that the Mirror-Reporter has housed the tree, needs have never been left unmet.  In fact, those choosing ornaments often remark that they had more fun shopping for someone they didn’t know than someone they did.  Clubs, church groups, families, groups of friends, students and many others took part in providing gifts for The Giving Tree this season. Among the new special touches to the program this year was the donation of handmade pillow cases created by members of the Lake Area Quilters Guild. The nearly 60 club members began working on the pillow cases last summer and presented 232 to the Mirror-Reporter for inclusion with the gifts families receive.

Financial gifts to The Giving Tree were also very generous this season.

A very heartfelt thank you to all those who contributed in so many ways to make this worthwhile project a success.
