Willie Nelson returning to Surf stage

 

Country music icon Willie Nelson will return to the Surf Ballroom stage for a Wednesday, May 15, performance.

Tickets for the show went on sale Tuesday, Feb. 19.  They are $45 in advance; $50 at the door.

Nelson appeared at the Surf in 2004 and was in concert at the North Iowa Area Community College 

Auditorium in March 2011.

The 80-year-old Nelson rose to fame in the 1960s and 70s with best selling albums “Shotgun Willie,” “Phases and Stages” and “Red Headed Stranger.”  His many hits have included: “Mama, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To be Cowboys, “On The Road Again,” “Stardust,” “To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before” and “Always On My Mind,” to name a few.

Nelson has also used his music to heighten awareness of the plight of the farmer.  He founded Farm Aid in 1985 to champion the cause of family farmers.

In 1993 he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Kennedy Center Honors in 1998.
