Voting sites reduced for Nov. 5 Regular Election in Clear Lake

Voters in the City of Clear Lake will be allowed to cast their ballot in the Nov. 5 Regular City Election at one of two voting sites.

Clear Lake City Hall, 15 N. 6th St., and the Church of Christ, 2010 14th Ave. N., will be the two designated polling sites, according to City Clerk Jennifer Larsen and Commissioner of Elections Ken Kline.  

Larsen explained that as it did in 2011, the city will use voting centers rather than precincts.  In 2011, the city opted for voting centers due to the anticipation of lower voter turnout due to uncontested races.  This year, just one of the three races is contested.  Gary Hugi and Peter Lagios are seeking the at-large Council position.  Second Ward Councilman Tony Nelson and Mayor Nelson Crabb are running unopposed.

Larsen said three ballots will be prepared and voters will be given the correct ballot for their City Ward when they sign in at the polling site.

Zion Lutheran Church, which usually serves voters in the First Ward, was omitted from the Nov. 5 plan due to its proximity to City Hall, according to Larsen.
