Volleyball team splits NCC games
The Clear Lake girls split matches with a pair of North Central Conference teams last week, putting their record at 11-8 in match play and 4-2 in the North Central Conference.

After opening with a 25-17 win on the first set, the Lions were inconsistent in the remainder of the match and fell, 1-3, to Clarion-Goldfield Thursday, Sept 25. The Cowgirls rolled with three straights wins, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20, to claim the match.
“We were to inconsistent with our serving in the last three sets,” said Lions Coach Scott Swenson. “We played well the first set with our overall game, but Clarion-Goldfield made some adjustments in their net play and defense the last three sets.”
Swenson said he did not want to take anything away from the visitor, but said his own team can be its biggest opponent, at times.
“We made too many mistakes with our ball control. We need to learn to stop making mistakes and giving the other team free points,” he said. “We have turned the corner and have made a lot of progress and improvement this season. Once again in the locker room after the match their were a lot of disappointed individuals who care deeply about this team.”
Carly Ouverson diligently set up the Lion offense, with 32 assists and six digs. She was 10/12 at the service line with three aces. Megan Kopriva was also effective in the back row, making seven digs. The senior also went 13/14 serving.
At the net, Kaitlyn Pitzen led the team with 14 kills. She also had five digs and was 8/11 serving. Bailey Kibsgaard had six kills, followed by Taylor Julsen with seven kills, three blocks and five digs. She was 10/11 serving.
Jenna Peterson had nine digs, seven kills and was 14/16 serving with four aces. Brianna Haugen had four kills and was 9/12 serving with one - Read More Via e-Edition
