Vikings keep scoring train rolling; down CAL, 74-32

    One thing can be said for the Ventura Vikings - they sure know how to score.  So far this season, the Vikings have amassed 253 points.  Friday night’s game against CAL was no exception to the scoring frenzy, as Ventura topped the Cadets, 74-32.
    Ventura was a scoring machine in the first quarter, collecting four touchdowns. 
    Schmitz opened the scoring with a 31-yard run, followed by a completed seven-yard pass to Shawn Murphy.  Both PAT attempts were blocked for a 12-0 lead.  Joel Watson

was the next Viking to find the endzone on a two-yard run.  The two-point conversion pass from Schmitz to Zach Zwiefel ws good, 20-0.  Schmitz carried in the third TD and the two-point pass to Watson was good, 28-0.
    Schmitz again scored in the second quarter on a 30-yard run and he ran in the two-point conversion for a 36-0 lead.
    Penalties began to plague the Vikings and the momentum of the game began to swing in the second quarter, as the Cadets picked up three unanswered touchdowns, 36-18. 
    Schmitz and Watson combined to bring the Vikings out of their slump.  Schmitz scored on a 32-yard run, followed by a 30-yard pass completion to Watson.  The two-point conversion pass to James Stephenson was good for a 50-18 halftime score.
    Schmitz kept up his scoring domination with two more touchdowns to open the half, one on a 21-yard run and another on an 11-yard run.  Both two point conversions runs by Schmitz were good, 66-24.
    Ventura’s final TD was a 13-yard pass to Zwiefel in the fourth quarter.  The two-point conversion run by Schmitz brought the score to 74-24.  The Cadets had the final two touchdowns for the final, 74-38.
    “We played well on offense, but played too sloppy on defense,” said Coach Mark Pueggel.  “We gave up way too much yardage on penalties and big plays.  I am glad to get a win, but this was not our best performance.”
    Schmitz was unstoppable on offense, having a hand in nine touchdowns.  He carried the ball 21 times for 342-yards and six TD’s and he passed for 100-yards for three touchdowns.
