Ventura Vikings fall to WB-M in season opener

It was a tough season opener for the Ventura Vikings when they traveled to West Bend on Friday, Aug. 26, to face the eighth rated Wolverines.
The Vikings went toe-to-toe with the Wolverines in the first quarter, moving the ball well, but due to penalties and first game miscues, were enable to make it into the endzone.  West Bend-Mallard picked up one touchdown in the first quarter for an 8-0 lead.

WB-M opened the second half by scoring on the opening kick-off, 38-0 and picked up another TD before Ventura’s quarterback Ryan Schmitz connected with Joel Watson on a 50-yard strike for a Viking touchdown.  The two-point conversion failed for the final, 46-6.
“I thought we moved the ball well at times, we were just not able to capitalize or finish any drives,” said Coach Mark Pueggel.  “We struggled defensively against a very mobile quarterback.  West Bend-Mallard is just a really good team.”
Schmitz was 6/12 passing for 87 yards and one touchdown.  Watson had three receptions for 67 yards and one touchdown.  Shaun Murphy had two catches for 14 yards and Colton Knutson made one catch for five yards.
