Ventura street project will cause traffic issues

    Main Street pavement removals and grading work will begin the week of June 4 in Ventura from Lake Street south to its corporate limits.  Planners warn the project will result in traffic congestion.
     Traffic on Main Street will be maintained, however, it will be one-way alternating traffic controlled by traffic signals. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes, if possible, as the area will be congested.

    Jason Petersburg, an engineer with Veenstra & Kimm, Mason City, also explained West Lake Street from west corporate limits to 2nd Street will become one-way traffic sometime the week of June 11.   The area will remain open to local traffic only during the paving operation.  This segment of West Lake Street will remain open as a one-way street.  All traffic will be westbound only.  All vehicles using this segment of West Lake Street will need to follow the one-way signs being installed by the contractor and watch for flaggers during the paving operation to direct vehicular movements.
    Eight to 10 hours following the placement of the new pavement control joints must be sawed in the new pavement.  In an usual move to expedite the project, city officials are allowing the work to occur regardless of weather or daylight conditions.  It is recommended that residents keep their windows closed to avoid the dust during this operation and reduce the noise level as this work may occur late at night.
