Trucker dies after semi crashes off I-35

    A Minnesota man was killed in a single-vehicle accident Friday on Interstate 35 south of Clear Lake.
    Dean Earl Elam, 73, Litchfield, Minn., was transported by Clear Lake Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, where he died, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

    Elam was northbound on Interstate 35 in a semitrailer near the 191 mile marker around 2:30 p.m. Friday when he went off the roadway to the left crossing the median and southbound lanes, according to the accident report.  His vehicle then entered the ditch and crossed Hickory Avenue at 240th Street, coming to rest on the west side of the road.
    The Clear Lake Police Department, Iowa Department of Transportation Enforcement and Iowa Department of Natural Resources provided assistance.
