Total team effort as CL girls tennis team defeats St. Eds
It was a truly a team win for the Clear Lake girls tennis team on Monday, April 8. The Lions edged St. Ed’s, 5-4, on the strength of a super tie-breaker in the number three doubles match.
The Lions won just two of six singles matches, but swept the three doubles contests for the victory.
“Every win was important today, but the match ultimately came down to our number three doubles team of Amie Adams and Alexis Atkinson. They battled for every point and did not give up,” said Coach Mary Jo Peterson.
Number three player Carly Ouverson was a 6-2, 6-4 winner in singles and number six player Taylor Julsen shut-out her opponent, 6-0, 6-0.
Jenna Peterson and Ouverson captured the first doubles match, 6-4, 6-4, and Kaitlyn Pitzen and Julsen were 6-1, 7-5 winners to tie the match. Adams and Atkinson dropped the first game of their match, 4-6, but rallied to win the second 7-6 on a 7-5 tiebreaker. The Lions won the super tie-breaker, 10-8.
The Lions took just seven players to the match. Courtney Anderson won her junior varsity singles match, 6-0, 6-2.
