Toppin, Kronemann crowned champions

Both teams claim top honors for G-H/V cross country

It was a very successful day for both the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock boys and girls cross country teams.  Both teams brought home championships from the Belmond-Klemme meet held Tuesday, Sept. 4.

“I thought our runners have done a good job with the extreme heat conditions that we have been running in lately,” said Coach Jeff Short.  “I am looking forward to seeing our times when the conditions get back in the 

normal range for this time of the year.”

The girls won with a score of 30, while the boys took top honors with a score of 48.

The girls were paced by first place winner Kamille Kronemann who ran the course in 17:26.  Tiara Van Gerpen was third in 17:57.  Also placing in the top 10 was Maribel Kamago, sixth in 18:50 and Maddie Tusha, eighth in 20:32.  Rounding out the score was Kelly Anderson, 12th, 20:38 and Maria Gonzael, 21st, 21:25.

Joel Toppin was the top runner in the boys race with a time of 17:48.  Chase Smith wasn’t far behind with a time of 18:06, good enough for third place.  Also scoring for the Cardinals was A.J. Arnond, 11th in 19:06; Brad Nedved, 12th in 19:18; Derek Lonneman, 21st in 20:02; Aaron Boehnke, 24th, 20:09; and Jeff O’Brien, 26th, 20:09.

The cross country team runs at the Clear Lake meet held at the Iowa Regular Baptist Camp on Thursday, Sept. 13.  The JV race begins at 4:30 p.m.
