Tom Stump

 

Tom L. Stump, 62, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service was held on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Pastor Ed Bard officiating.  Military honors were provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Tommy Leonard Stump was born in Mason City, on Sept. 26, 1949, the son of Virgil and Ruth (Whitson) Stump.  He attended Mason City High School with the class of 1967.  On Feb. 28, 1969 Tom was inducted into the United States Marine Corps where he faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge on Feb. 26, 1971, as a Corporal.  

Following his service in the Marine Corps he resided in the Waterloo area where he worked for Coca-Cola.  He then moved back to North Iowa where he met and married Nancy Johnson; they have resided in Clear Lake for the past 35 years.  

In September of 2011 Tom retired from Marshall and Swift in Mason City.

Tom enjoyed meeting new people and made friends wherever he went.  Being a route driver for most of his life, he had many special friends throughout North Iowa.  He loved children and one of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren, he developed a special and unique relationship with each one of them.  In addition to his family Tom loved to fish and spent most of his spare time in his boat on Clear Lake.  He was an avid birdwatcher and a devoted Cornhuskers fan.

Those grateful in sharing in Tom’s life are his wife, Nancy; three daughters, Jennifer Pierce (James Bowers), Taylor Landing, Texas, Erin (Jed) Wright, Independence, Iowa, and Lindsay (Chris) Vialle, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; his grandchildren, Gage, Chase, and Isaac Schoenberger, Clarice and Malaki Wright, David Bowers, and Jack Vialle; his brothers, Larry (Laurene) Stump, Mesa, Ariz., and Jay Stump, Mason City; his sisters, Beatrice Potts, Cleveland, Ga., Betty Kidd, Lorane, Ore., and Faye Ranc, Mason City; as well and his nieces and nephews and many friends.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Donny Stump and Ray Stump; and his nephews, Loren Stump, Bruce Thompson, and Ricky Dempsien.  

Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
