Susan M. Beenken

Susan Margaret Beenken, 67, of Mason City, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at her home.

Memorial services were held on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with Rev. Art Zewert officiating.  Family suggests memorials to Susan Margaret Beenken Memorial Fund.  

Susan was born Dec. 7, 1946 in Albia, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Marjorie (Bennett) Wilson.  She attended school in Lovilia, Iowa.

Susan married Fred Schade on Sept. 10, 1963 in Lovilia.  They moved to Mason City where they raised their six sons.  In 1978 she married Roger Beenken and they lived on a farm near Portland.

Susan worked most of her life in Mason City in retail, retiring from Wal-mart in 2012.

She enjoyed watching her kids play softball.  She also enjoyed playing cards, baking and was known for her peanut butter cookies, pumpkin bars and wedding cakes.  She was also an avid Cubs fan.  One of her greatest accomplishments was being a cancer survivor for over 14 years.

She is survived by her six sons, Jack (Geri) Schade, Mason City, Jeff Schade, Mason City, Jim (Stephanie) Schade, Eaton, Colo., Jerry (Lori) Schade, Mason City, John (Cheryl) Schade, Mason City, and Joe (Dawn) Schade, Rockford, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, Joshua (Jill), Jerris, Dillon, Cacharel, Joslynn, Matthew, Brandyn, Lindsey, Shelbey, Vina, Harley, Kayla, Jayden, Jordyn and Terran; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Wilson, Freemont, Calif., and Ed (Jolinda) Wilson, Lovilia; former daughter-in-law, Trenda Roppe, Mason City; and good friend, Judy Schade, Mason City.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Wilson.
