Strong start for CL boys track team

 

The Clear Lake boys track team got their season started on the right foot. The Lions recorded their highest placement in many years at Clarion, finishing second in the field of six teams in their class April 5.  Iowa Falls-Alden captured the team title with 119 points.  The Lions were runner-up with 106 and Forest City was third with 98 points.  Rounding out the field was Hampton-Dumont (76), Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (67) and Clarion-Goldfield (58).

“The kids ran great and we finished the highest we have in a meet in many years, so hopefully it is a sign of good things to come,” said Coach AJ Feuerbach. 

Individually, the Lions got winning performances from Connor Nosbisch in the 110 hurdles (15.61) and Chandler Diercks in the long jump (21’6”).  Jake Harle was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 18’10”.  Aaron Boeshart and Tre Strowder finished second and third respectively in the 100 yard dash in 11.62 and 11.84. 

Ryan Faught was third in the 3200 in a time of 11:27.  Teammate Spencer Orr was sixth in the event in 11:53.13.  Orr also grabbed a fifth place finish in the 800 in a time of 2:28.23.  Also earning team points for the Lions was Dustin King, finishing fourth in the 400 in 55.59.  Alex Vander Ploeg was also fourth in the high jump, clearing 5’6”, and Jordan Mitchell was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 39’ 11.5”.

Clear Lake’s 4x200 relay with Diercks, Strowder, Boeshart, and Harle was a winner in 1:35.42 and the 4x100 with Nosbisch, Strowder, Boeshart and Harle was second in 46.0.  The 4x100 shuttle hurdle team of  Vander Ploeg, Chase Bacon, Blake Kelso, and Nosbisch placed first in 1:05.07.  The distance medley team with Josh Copney, McKean Bang, Harle, and Alex Webb was second in 4:00.42.

Placing fifth was the 4x400 team with Bang, Brock Adams, King, and Zach Tatum in 4:00.17 and the 4x800 team in 9:40.18.  The 4x800 team included Jake Iverson, Tatum, Zach Merfeld, and Alex Webb.

 

Hampton Invite

Connor Nosbisch figured in three wins and and Chandler Diercks had two, helping the Lions track team to a strong second place showing at the Hampton Invite held Monday, April 15.  The host team won with 109 points.  The Lions were runner-up with 103.

Nosbisch won the 110 meter high hurdles by almost a second, clocking a 15.51. He was also the anchor of the winning shuttle hurdle relay team with Alex Vander Ploeg, Blake Kelso and Chase Bacon.  The winning 4x100 relay included Nosbisch, Aaron Boeshart, Tre Strowder and Diercks.  Diercks also won the long jump with a leap of 21’3”.  Jake Harle was second in the long jump with a mark of 19’3”.  

Diercks and Harle were also part of the 4x200 relay which placed second in 1:35.50 and the third place distance medley team.  Other members of the 4x200 were Boeshart and Strowder.    Dustin King and Alex Webb comprised the distance medley.

Strowder also had a third place finish in the 100 meter dash in 11.49.  Boeshart was fifth in the event in 11.66. 

King finished third in the 400 meter dash in a time of 56.0 and Harle was fourth in the 200 meter dash in 23.71.  Levi Pinheiro was fifth in the discus, throwing 110’ 7”.  Nosbisch gave the Lions points for a sixth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:04.70.

Clear Lake’s 4x800 relay with Alex Webb, Spencer Orr, Jake Iverson and Christian Paulsen was third in 9:20.45.

In junior varsity competition, Blake Kelso won the 110 meter high hurdles in 17.68.  Other top three finishes were posted by Josh Copney, second - Read More Via e-Edition
