Storbeck and Jones move on to State Cross Country Meet
Clear Lake runners saved their best races of the year for when it counted most. Two Lions, freshman Gretchen Jones and senior Tanner Storbeck, will compete at Saturday’s State Meet as a result of their top 10 finishes at the State Qualifying Meet held Thursday at New Hampton.
The Lion boys finished fifth as a team, while the girls were seventh in the 15-school meet. The top three teams and 10 individuals advance to State at Fort Dodge Saturday, Nov. 1.
“Gretchen and Tanner are a testament to how training and a smart race strategy can pay off in big races,” said Coach Nick DiMarco.
According to the coach, Tanner Storbeck executed his race plan perfectly on his way to a 10th place finish in a time of 17:30. “Tanner knew that it was important to be in contact with the lead pack through the two-mile mark and then the race comes down to who is most determined,” said DiMarco. “His plan worked brilliantly and earned him a spot in the State Meet.” The coach noted Storbeck finished in the top 10 in only two races this year, the conference and the state qualifying meets. “He knows how to rise to the occasion,” said DiMarco. - Read More Via e-Edition
