State bound: Clear Lake girls head to Des Moines with support of community behind them

The Clear Lake girls were reminded of the strong support they’ll have at the State Basketball Tournament this week at a special send-off Monday evening.

“Basketball is a long season and it can wear on you.   But the girls kept learning more and wanting to learn more and more,” said Coach Bart Smith.  “I’m happy for the team to see their goal of going to state accomplished, but we’re not done yet.”

Captains Kaye Faber and Lindsey Loudenburg joined their coach in thanking parents and fans for their encouragement and support.  “The goal of the five seniors is finally coming true.  Our new goal is to play on Saturday,” she said, referring to the Class 3A championship game time.

The Lions were slated to take on number two ranked Pocahontas at 5 p.m. Tuesday.  Photos and a report of that game-- and others-- will appear in next week’s Mirror-Reporter.
