Soccer team tops G-H/V; falls to W-SR

The Clear Lake boys went 1-1 in soccer matches played last week.  The Lions ran out of time against Waverly-Shell Rock on May 6, falling 2-1, but came out ready to compete against Garner-Hayfield/Ventura and

 blanked the Cards, 5-0.  The Lions are back on the field Thursday at Garner.

W-SR 2, CL 1

The Lions battled valiantly to come back from a 2-0 halftime deficit, but Waverly-Shell Rock held on for a 2-1 victory Monday, May 6.

The Go-Hawks scored in the 28th and 37th minute of the first half to take a 2-0 advantage at the break.

Clear Lake finally got on the board in the 68th minute of the contest when a shot from Antonio DiMarco found its way into the net.

Bryson Hamilton had three saves in goal for the Lions.  

“This is the third game in a row where we have gone into the half down 2-0.  For some reason, we don’t seem to care until after we’ve given the other team a couple freebies,” said Coach Matt Anderson.  “In the second half of the game we controlled the ball, had more shots on goal, and seemed to find purpose for playing a soccer match.  Unfortunately for us, a soccer match is 80-minutes and we ran out of time, again.”  

CL 5, G-H/V 0

The Lions wasted no time getting in front of Garner-Hayfield/Ventura in a game played Thursday, May 9.  

Clear Lake was up 1-0 in the third minute after a Carson Farmer throw-in to near post was finished by Jarod Anderson.  

In the 10th minute another Farmer throw-in found Antonio DiMarco for a header goal.

In the 25th, Karlen Lu took a shot on goal which was deflected by the keeper.  Jack Finn made good on the deflection, placing the ball in the net for a 3-0 lead at the half.  

In the 59th minute defender Garrett Kunzman made an attack on goal.  Kunzman settled in at the 25, taking a shot on goal for the fourth score of the match.  The Lions finished their scoring with a double assist from Anderson to Lu to Jack Abbas for the finish.
