Soccer girls shut-out A-P/GC in season opener
Lions capture 2-0 victory
The Clear Lake girls soccer team opened its season Monday with a shut-out victory over Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center. The Lions, playing at home, scored a goal in each half of play for a 2-0 win.
Sophomore Ivy Hogg put the Lions on the scoreboard in the first half, while Logan Anderson kicked the second score.
Coach Lothar Meyer praised the play of his young team and said he expects them to get better with each outing.
“It was great to see the sophomore step in and perform-- Logan Anderson, Ivy Hogg and junior Abby Woiwod at offense and sophomore keeper Riley Brinkman, who kept the net empty for the first match of the season,” said Meyer.
“I liked what I did see and didn’t see,” added the coach. “The kids are working the whole match and not letting up.”
The coach said the play of senior sweeper Alicia Miller was key to the team.
