Sheakley named Male Athlete of the Week by Sports Spotlight
Gavin Sheakley, a senior on the Clear Lake baseball team, has been honored as the Hy-Vee Horizon Male Athlete of the Week by Sports Spotlight, a statewide source for news, information and resources for high school and youth athletics and all active endeavors. Athletes chosen by Sports Spotlight have reached a high level of athleticism, while maintaining sportsmanship to its utmost degree.
Sheakley has been a leader for the Lions all season long at the plate and on the mound. He has posted an 11-0 pitching record, 1.09 E.R.A in 77 innings of work with 104 strikeouts. At the plate his numbers are solid, batting .441 with 60 hits, and he’s reached via base on balls another 20 times with 28 stolen bases.
Sports Spotlight recognizes athletes each week, in addition to its commitment to the monthly recognition of all athletes in the Sports Spotlight magazine.
“One of our main goals as an organization is to foster not only good athletic performance, but also a dedication to sportsmanship,” said Sports Spotlight President Rush Nigut. “Our mission is to recognize the accomplishments of young athletes by spotlighting the sportsmanship, competition and passion these athletes display to reach their goals. The benefits of sports for young people, the long hours spent by coaches and the support of parents for their athletes are all worthy and deserving of praise.”
Sport Spotlight’s products include a monthly print magazine distributed through Casey’s General Stores and Scheels. Its radio programs over the Sports Spotlight Network include the popular Friday Night Live program that also appears on WHO-TV Channel 13.2 and Mediacom channels 113 and 246 highlighting all the high school football scores and plays.
