Season ends for GHV girls
The season came to a close for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls golf team when they competed in Regionals on Monday, May 19.
The Cardinals finished fourth with 418. Clarion-Goldfield won the meet carding a 393, followed by Okoboji, 397, and Algona, 403.
“As a team we were simply outclassed today,” said Coach Todd Greiman. “Our score was a little higher than usual, but every girl
would have needed to play flawlessly through 18 holes for us to move on. “
Kyleigh Slaichert was the only GHV golfer to move on to the Regional final. She placed fifth with a 99.
“Kyleigh survived a rough stretch at the end her round to stay alive and move on,” said Greiman.
Madee Hejna was just one stroke short of making it. Hejna shot a 100.
“It’s unfortunate for Madee, as she is easily talented enough to make the cut, but a couple of bad breaks cost her,” said Greiman.
Rounding out the score was Kim Dornbier with a 104 and Whitney Watson shot a 115. Also golfing was Tamara O’Hara with 118 and Elly Johnston with a 130.
The team says goodbye to three seniors, Dornbier, Watson and O’Hara.
“The seniors are not just very good golfers, but more importantly are just great young ladies in general. It has been a privilege to work with them and I greatly appreciate their dedication and work ethic. They have set great examples for the underclassmen and I’m hoping their leadership will continue to influence the underclassmen now that they’re moving on in their lives.”
