School Board settles on 2012-13 calendar
The school year will start a bit later for Clear Lake students in the fall.
After much discussion, the Clear Lake School Board voted Monday to set the start date for the 2012-13 school year as Monday, Aug. 20. The school year will conclude Friday, May 24. Any snow days incurred will be made up after the Memorial Day holiday.
Breaks during the school year include early dismissal on Friday, Dec. 21, for the Christmas holiday. That break will also mark the end of the first semester. Classes will resume Jan. 3.
Spring break will be March 11-15, 2013.
School Board President Deb Betz said the board discussed several options for the calendar, with an eye on creating more consistent dates for staff development time. She pointed out that in the next school year staff development dates are scheduled approximately two times monthly on Wednesdays. Early dismissal will occur on those days.
In other business, the School Board is expected to take action in March concerning the purchase of two new boilers for the high school. The equipment is estimated to cost $339,000.
