School Board approves hires
Improvements at Lions Field, Stillman Auditorium discussed
The Clear Lake School Board approved the hiring of four full-time employees Monday night.
Bart Smith, who has served the district as a para educator has been named as a full-time physical education instructor at the high school. Smith also moved up from assistant coach to head girls basketball coach at CLHS for the 2011-12 season. Joining Smith as a new staff member at the high school will be Lori Riley, named as a full-time high school guidance counselor. Current guidance counselor Cathy Spotts asked and was granted part-time status.
Trista Thompson has been hired as a full-time guidance counselor at Clear Creek Elementary School. Mary Gagnon announced she will retire form the position at the end of the school year. Austin Peterson was also named as a new fifth grade teacher at Clear Creek. Longtime teacher Eileen Taylor is also retiring.
In other business Monday, the Board gave its support to a committee raising funds for improvements to the sidelines and playing field at Lions Field.
Clear Lake High School Activities Director Dale Ludwig and volunteer assistant football coach Jared DeVries explained to the Board that use by soccer and football teams has left the field in rough shape. An informal committee had looked at the problems and proposed installing artificial turf on the sidelines to eliminate the base ground and mud which is usually there, along with re-seeding the field.
