Rodney D. Hanson

Rodney D. Hanson, 66, 1120 N. 5th St., Clear Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa, Mason City.

Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.  Inurnment will be at a later time at Rock Grove Cemetery, Nora Springs, Iowa.  Family suggest memorials to Rodney D. Hanson Memorial Fund.

Rodney was born July 1, 1947 in Mason City, the son of Helmer and Iva (Fuston) Hanson.  He attended Clear Lake High School.  He enlisted in the United State Navy and served on the USS Ticonderoga during the Vietnam Conflict.  He married Pat Cree May 7, 1969.

He was a member of Local 234 and worked as a heavy equipment operator and worked thru out Iowa. He retired in 2006 due to health issues.

He enjoyed spending his time outdoors fishing, bow hunting, and shooting guns with his good friend, Mike Cookman.  He also enjoyed darts and playing foosball and helped organize tournaments in the area.  He especially enjoyed attending his daughter’s basketball games.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Pat Hanson, Clear Lake; daughter, Shannon Hanson, and her fiancé, Dave Jackson, Clear Lake; sisters, Maxine (Bill) Worsley, Clear Lake, and Laurel O’Rourke, Maryville, Mo.; brother-in-law, Donnie (Bernice) Cree, White Oaks, Calif.; sister-in-law, Jeanne Cree, Clinton, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents; three brothers, Gary, Curtis and Roger Hanson; two sisters, June Johnson and Sylvia Paine Burkheimer; brother-in-laws, Donald Johnson, Clem O’Rourke and Max Cree; and sister-in-laws, Dixie Schaer and Shirley Tanner.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
