Robert D. Christensen
Robert “Bob” D. Christensen, 82, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2023 at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice, Mason City, Iowa.
A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Sean R. Smith officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
A viewing was held on Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 5-7 p.m. at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.
Memorials may be directed MercyOne North Iowa Hospice, Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Alzheimer’s Association in Robert’s memory.
Robert Dale Christensen was born Oct. 17, 1940, in Swaledale, the son of Aage Kjar and Johanna Louise (Wradislavski) Christensen. Robert was a graduate of Thornton High School in the class of 1959. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, later being honorably discharged.
On July 3, 1970, Robert was united in marriage to Janet L. Sons at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City; to this union one son was born.
Robert farmed his family farm, raising cattle until his retirement in 2002, when he and Janet moved to Clear Lake.
Robert enjoyed Duplicate bridge, reading Westerns, hunting and fishing, his greatest love was spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City, where he also taught Sunday school for 15 years; the American Legion and Thornton Farm Hands.
Robert is survived by his wife, Janet, of Clear Lake; son, Kurt (Cindy) Christensen, of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Rebeccah Christensen, of Iowa City, Michael Christensen, of Clear Lake; sister, Barbara (Willard) Krabbe, of Mason City; brother-in-law, Ronald Sons, of Mountain Home, Ark.; niece, Sherry (Dan) Manus; nephew, Douglas (Jane) Krabbe; along with several cousins.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Christian Christensen.
Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
