Uncle, as he was known by many, was born in Algona, Iowa on March 9, 1939. Uncle lived many places throughout his childhood but called North Iowa his home. Uncle retired with the rank of Master Sergeant in the communications field, 14 of those years were with foreign service. Uncle went on to finish his working career with the United States Postal Service after dedicating 21 years.

Uncle married the love of his life Shitsue Kamishima in 1971. Aunt June was native Japanese and they embraced that culture living many years overseas until finally settling in Sacramento, Calif. They were married for 38 years until her death in 2009.

Upon moving to Clear Lake due to his worsening dementia, a close knit tribe was formed around him. The love and support he received during his journey was provided by this tribe. Uncle loved his canine companion Oliver, a feisty miniature schnauzer.

Those left to cherish memories of Uncle are nieces and nephews, Christine Oehlert, Randy Olson, Justin Olson, Jason Olson and Samantha Olson; 14 great nieces and nephews; seven great-great nieces and nephews; special friends to Uncle include Chelsea Korf, Matthew Welter Jr., Nellie Adams, and Braelyn Hanson.
