Richard "Bucky" Harmon

Richard F. Harmon, lovingly known as, “Bucky,” passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, at his home in Clear Lake.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, in the One Vision gymnasium, 1200 N. 9th St. W, Clear Lake. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2 p.m

Bucky entered this world with bright blue eyes and a full head of curly brown hair on Feb. 10, 1950. He was the youngest born to his parents, Richard and Myrle (Mann) Harmon. He joined older siblings, Tom and Vicki.

From a young age Bucky had a close bond with his sister, Vicki. And even in his older years he loved to share stories of their childhood together.

Once Bucky became an adult, it was important to his parents that he be able to live a full and independent life. He moved to a group home in Nebraska where he lived for a few years, before finding his niche at Handicap Village in Clear Lake, in the 1980’s.

Bucky enjoyed his One Vision family and friends that he made in Clear Lake. Many will remember encountering him on his daily walks, where he loved to stop and visit with friends on the street. His mother raised him to be a consummate gentleman, so he could always be counted on to hold the door for others or offer a helping hand in a time of need. Bucky was caring and loving and always greeted you with one of his signature big bear hugs that nearly lifted you off your feet! He loved his day trips when family would come to visit, complete with lunch dates of a plain hamburger, fries, and a vanilla milkshake! He always made certain to ask how other family and friends were doing, especially during phone calls with his nieces.

For may years Bucky worked at the recycling center. He also spent time crafting leather goods, such as, wallets, until he reached retirement age. As Bucky settled into retirement, he grew to love his routine. He was able to move to a duplex in Clear Lake where he thrived alongside his roommates!

Bucky loved watching old westerns and his Elvis Presley movies, as well as, TV classics, like “The Andy Griffith Show” and “Walker, Texas Ranger.” At the top of his list, however, was his favorite, “Home Alone.”

Bucky was one of a kind, and will be greatly missed by his nieces and their families, as well as his cousins and his One Vision family who brought him countless moments of love and laughter over the years.

He is greeted in Heaven by his loving family, his parents, Richard and Myrle; and siblings, Tom Scott and Vicki Harmon.

Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
