Recca Mae Hejlik
Recca Mae Hejlik, 91, of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully under hospice care on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Country Meadows Place, Mason City. Per Recca’s wishes, she was cremated, and a Gathering of Family and Friends will be held for Recca at the TimberCrest Atrium Room, 200 Glen Oaks Drive, Clear Lake, on Wednesday, October 16th from 2 - 4 p.m. Memorials may be directed to MercyOne Hospice.
Recca was born on October 5, 1932 in Clear Lake, the daughter of William R. and Catherine (Belknap) Reents. She was later adopted by her stepfather, William A. (Willy) Schober. Recca grew up loving the lake life. She then met her husband, Bill Hejlik, and they were united in marriage on September 1, 1950. They started their life in rural Rockwell and eventually moved to town. They welcomed four children: Brick, Steve, Becky and Craig.
They resided in Rockwell until 1971, then they purchased their farm at Sheffield. Recca’s passion for horses was undeniable and because of this she took great pride in raising Quarter Horses for 48 years with Bill. She enjoyed showing in Halter, Walk/Trot and Trail riding and usually wearing a top she had sewn. Her door was always open with the coffee pot on, bake goods ready to serve and a good conversation. In 2019 they made the move back to her childhood city of Clear Lake to TimberCrest Senior Living for five years.
Recca will always be loved and deeply missed by her family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Brick (Janell) Hejlik of Sheffield, Steve Hejlik of Sheffield, Becky (John) Carstens of Rockwell; and Craig (LuAnn) Hejlik of Ventura; and grandchildren, Janet, Holly, Brandis, and Jennifer. Her siblings Penny (Vick) Volrath, Jerolyn Southwick, Jaqueline (Glen) Stevens, James Reents and John Reents, sister-in-law Carol Schober.
Recca was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, brother William R. (Bud) Schober and brother-in-law Phil Southwick.
Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, Mason City.
