Raleigh M. Bagby

 

Raleigh Mac Bagby, 62, Clear Lake, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the North Iowa Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.  

A Memorial Mass was held Monday, June 24, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. John Gossman and Msgr. Joseph Slepicka officiating.  Inurnment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Raleigh

 has given the final gift of life to others, as he contributed to the organ donation program.  According to his wishes, his body has been cremated.  Memorials may be given to the M.S. Society or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

    Raleigh was born Feb. 13, 1951 in Elmhurst, Ill., the son of Raleigh Gavin and Helen (MacCallum) Bagby.  He attended school at Petersburg, Ill., graduating from Porta High School in 1969.  He attended Lincoln Land Community College, Springfield, Ill., transferring to Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, Iowa, in 1970, graduating in 1973 with a biology major.  

     Raleigh married Anne Chizek Aug. 3, 1974 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake.    He taught at Notre Dame High School, Burlington, Iowa, where he was girls track coach and assistant football coach.   In 1978 they moved back to Clear Lake.  He worked for American Family Insurance from 1980 until he retired in 2007.  He was diagnosed with M.S. in 1999.  He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.  

     Raleigh was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake and 3rd Degree of  Knights of Columbus St. Patrick’s Council #7898.  

     Raleigh is survived by his wife, Anne Bagby, Clear Lake; two sisters, Lawain (Nick) Miller, Eddyville, Ill., and Lorrie (Ed) Durbin, Decatur, Ill.; brother, Derek Bagby, Petersburg, Ill.; four nieces, Melissa (Jared) Staples, Shara Bagby, Trisha Bagby and Lauren Bagby; three nephews, Nick Miller, Marc Miller and Jeff Durbin; great-niece, Katelyn Miller; three great-nephews, Nick Miller, Nautica Miller and Nolen Miller. 

     Raleigh was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and nephew, Jim Miller.

     Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangments.
