Pat was born March 21, 1938, in Mason City, the daughter of Keith E. and Ruth M. (Hein) McGowan. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1956 and the College of Medical Technology
in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1957.
She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake where she was an active member. She was a member of Praise Circle and worked for many years in the Sunday School department. She became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, in 2012. She belonged to a local Alzheimer’s Support Group and the Red Hat ladies. Pat volunteered much of her time to Concord Care Center in Garner and Reading Buddies of Northern Iowa.
Patricia married Robert D. Hoyt, of Ventura, on July 3, 1959 at Zion Lutheran Church. They had one daughter, Suzanne.
Pat worked for the Park Clinic and Mercy Hospital before joining the Chappell Clinic in Clear Lake in 1961. She left Iowa to join her husband in Texas during his military training. She was there three months before Bob was sent overseas to Korea. Pat returned to Iowa and to her job at the Chappell Clinic. When Chappell Clinic closed in 1982, Pat began working for Dr. Gross where she continued until her retirement in 2009. She belonged to the Iowa State and the Mason City District of Radiology Technologists.
Pat took an active part in the farming with her husband. They retired from farming in 2007. Camping and fishing trips were a highlight of the summer. She loved being with her family and especially taking care of her grandchildren. She was an avid worker of crossword puzzles and liked to read and play cards. Digging into family history was a hobby. You might have found her late at night on the computer.
