Patience please,
Fireworks barge launch must be changed
The low lake level has caused officials at the Chamber of Commerce to alter their usual plans for launching fireworks barges into Clear Lake Wednesday.
Fourth of July Chairperson Alice Hanley explained the Chamber’s five barges used to shoot off fireworks over the lake July 4 cannot use the lake access at 17th Avenue
South due to lower than normal water level. This year the barges will be launched at the public access located directly across from Tourist Park, adjacent to the South Shore Inn.
“We’re asking the public to please be patient and courteous, as we will need to block South Shore Drive periodically to get the barges to the water,” said Hanley.
The lake access will remain open to the public, however there will be no parking allowed on the cement at the boat ramp.
The barges will be taken to the water during the late afternoon and early evening hours on Wednesday.
Hanley also noted boaters on the lake during the fireworks should use caution and not get too close to the barges. The Chamber has some patrol boats on the lake during the 10 p.m. fireworks display, however cooperation from those on the water is appreciated, she added.
