Pastor will make mission trip to Oklahoma

A Clear Lake pastor plans to travel to tornado-ravaged Oklahoma June 10-14 to help in whatever way he can.  He encourages others to join him.

Rev. Scot McCluskey, from Galilean Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, said experience has taught him that most people can’t respond to a quickly planned mission trip, so

 he has begun scheduling dates to be gone and asking those interested in serving to make plans to participate.  He announced the June 2013 dates almost a year ago, he said. 

Of course, Rev. McCluskey had no way of knowing that Moore, Okla. and its surrounding area would be severely damaged by tornados this spring.  However, he and others interested in traveling to the area will offer their help.

Rev. McCluskey noted that as an ELCA member his church supports Lutheran Disaster Relief efforts, sending contributions regularly.  That staff is already in the Moore area and has mobilized a volunteer effort.  When McCluskey and others arrive, they will have specific volunteer opportunities available to make the most of their time in the area.

McCluskey also noted that those unable to travel to Moore may wish to donate to the relief effort.  One hundred percent of contributions will be directed to the needs of tornado victims.
