Pack it away, or give it away?
Winterwear drive accepting donations now
If you’re packing away winter coats, now is the perfect time to consider donating to the annual Engage! Winter Outerwear Drive.
“Over the past four years, well over 3,200 articles of outerwear have been given away to families and individuals in the Clear Lake area, including individuals served
through the Clear Lake Schools coat closet, Head Start, Francis Lauer Youth Services, Opportunity Village, Prairie Ridge and The Salvation Army,” says Colleen Thompson, one of the organizers.
New this year is the placement of donation boxes at the Clear Lake Public Library and Clear Lake Senior Center to accept donations at this time of the year.
Thompson said that rather than clean and pack coats away, some may choose to donate their winter outerwear for others. Great end-of-season sales also make this a good time to purchase new winter articles like coats, hats, gloves and boots, for giving, she added.
