Those wishing to give a memorial in his memory, may wish to consider contributions to Opportunity Village.

Orin was born Aug. 15, 1942, in Garner, Iowa, to Orlin and Jeanette (Anderson) Solbrack.

Orin came to Opportunity Village in 1988, where he lived most recently in Pioneer Cottage.  Orin attended Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.  He loved going fishing and watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke and Walker Texas Ranger.  Orin enjoyed going to movies, county fairs, and shopping for watches, locks, and tools.  Orin enjoyed many jobs and activities at the Kinney-Lindstrom Center, including packaging, shredding, and working in the shop.  Working daily was very important to him!  In warmer weather he loved sitting outside, listening to his radio or just visiting with friends-laughing and joking around.  Orin’s latest adventure was attending the Clay County Fair in September with good friends Cindy and Dave Bowers, and getting to see his Village friends.  He had a great time!

For years Orin has proudly displayed on his door, “Orin’s Fix-It Shop.”  Orin loved fixing things and talking about fixing things-anything which might need fixing.  Not too long ago Orin said, “I want to skip winter.”  And then added:  “Everyone should talk nice-with no swearing!” Orin was always a proper gentlemen.

Orin will be missed by his many friends at Opportunity Village and the Oakwood Care Center; special friends include Cindy’s grandchildren, Kenidy, whom he called “Junior,” Paige, whom he called, “The Little One,” and Preston, whom he called, “The Boy;” his best buddy, Kevin; Cindy and Dave Bowers; Mark Schumacher; and his brother, Richard Solbrack, of Dixon, Calif.

Orin was preceded in death by his parents, Orlin Solbrack and Jeanette Anderson.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
